Oswaldo Zavala, journalist and professor of Latin American literature and culture at the College of Staten Island recently lent an OpEd to Spanish language e-news magazine sinembargo, analyzing the controversial investigative report by American journalist Tim Golden on alleged contributions of money from drug traffickers to political operators of the presidential campaign of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) in 2006.
Zavala contends the report “casts substantial doubts about the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) accusations, their political motivations and their problematic effect on journalism covering the “war on drugs” in Mexico.”
