Breast Cancer Facts & Figures: A Focus on Plastic Surgery in South Korea

Speaker:  HyunSuk Moon, Visiting Scholar from Korea

Summary: Mr. HyunSuk Moon, a scholar from CSI Visiting Scholars Program, will share his insights about Breast Cancer Facts, Figures and Plastic Surgery in South Korea. He will explore recent treatment advancements, the importance of regular screening, and effective prevention strategies.

Exploring Mama Lola’s Legacy, a Contemporary Analysis of Vodou in Brooklyn

Date/Time: Wednesday, October 30,12:20pm-1:10pm  

Speaker: Steveen Ulysse, Visiting Scholar from University of Glasgow

Summary: Dr. Steveen Ulysse from the University of Glasgow will highlight the links which exist between a Vodou Priestess in Brooklyn and other Afro-Diasporic Religious practices in Brooklyn, and what these connections mean for these different practices. 

Teaching English in Algeria: Experiences from the field

Speaker:  Yasmine Benmorsli, Fulbright Scholar, World Languages and Literatures

Summary: Ms. Yasmine Benmorsli, a Fulbright Scholar from Algeria will discuss her journey as a teacher and how she connected with her students, the teaching approaches she used, and her challenges. Additionally, she will share how these experiences led her to apply for a Fulbright scholarship and eventually come to the U.S. as a teacher of Arabic.

Making the Most of Your World: Peace Corps Info Session

Speaker:  Charlene Barrow, Peace Corps

Summary: Serving in the Peace Corps is a great way to immerse yourself in a new culture, learn a new language, and make a lasting impact. Join us at this virtual information session to learn about Volunteer experiences, ask questions about service, and gain tips to guide you through the application process. The event will be presented by Charlene Barrow of the Peace Corps.

The Magic Rubik Cube – Hungarian Inventor

Date/Time: Wednesday, November 20 (International Education Week),12:20pm-1:10pm

Speaker Judit Kerekes, School of Education. Odon Vancso and Imre Kokenyesi, Visiting Scholars from Hungary

Summary:  Try and solve the Rubik Cube and learn about its history with Professors Judit Kerekes, Odon Vancso and Imre Kokenyesi. Imre Kokenyesi, Erno Rubik’s collaborator will speak on the development of the Cube and Laszlo Mero’s new game, Rubik’s Gridlock developed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Rubik’s cube.  This game will be introduced and used as a tool for Mathematics Education.
