On December 6, 2024, the College of Staten Island’s English Language Institute (ELI) will hold its Fall 2024 graduation ceremony to acknowledge international students who have come a long way in just one semester. On campus studying English for eighteen hours a week, ELI students absorbed the English language quickly in an effort to fast-track their dreams of earning a college degree, getting a promotion at work, better helping their children with homework, or just enjoying an American life. All are welcomed to join the ceremony at 12 Noon in the Campus Center’s Green Dolphin Lounge.

The students’ growth was evident at the recent ELI event, “Culture Day”, where they gave presentations about their countries and cultures. With more than fifteen different nationalities represented, the event included students from every continent giving presentations about topics that ranged from Cacao production in Ecuador, to traditional dance in Ivory Coast, and sake-making practices in Japan. They also shared tastes from home – Argentine sausages, Peruvian Causa Limeña, and Chinese frog legs. Program Administrator, Sherlin Renteria-Regazzo said, “The students brought their best, and we couldn’t have been prouder.” Everyone learned something new and the world felt larger afterwards.

The Director of the ELI, Christian Perticone, says, “It’s not too much to say that studying English here at CSI is a deeply life-changing experience for our students. The teachers and I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of it.” As such, the ceremony will be held at the Green Dolphin Lounge, a setting that will allow friends and family to comfortably watch their loved ones receive their certificates.
