CSI Professor of Astrophysics Dr. Charles Liu will give a presentation at Liberty Science Center (LSC) on Thursday, January 30.
LSC has been hosting its Space Talk series since 2022, in which prominent astronomers bring their work to life on the Center’s 90-foot dome, the largest planetarium in the U.S. Dr. Liu will be the speaker at 7:00pm and will present the topic: “A Trillion Pixels a Night: Mapping the Cosmos with the Vera Rubin Observatory.” Named for astronomer Vera Rubin, who provided the first convincing evidence of the existence of dark matter, the new observatory in Chile will be the first of its kind in terms of design and technology. It’s expected to see “first light” later this year.
The talk is part of that night’s “LSC After Dark” event for adults, which runs from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. As a special promotion for this event, attendees can purchase online admission to “After Dark,” including the talk by Dr. Liu, for $10 instead of the usual $22 admission.
