Recognition Brings Nomination Count to Over 200 for the Station’s 40-Year History  

Honors Include Four Nods for “Nueva York” and One for CUNY Chancellor’s Talk Show “Café Con Felo” 

Nods Reflect CUNY TV’s Diverse, Unique Storytelling 

CUNY TV, the public educational television station of The City University of New York, received 21 nominations for the 2025 New York Emmy Awards, covering 10 shows and two films that were featured as part of the station’s film forum, “CUNY TV Presents.” 

The recognized shows include “Nueva York,” which received four nominations, as well as “CUNY Laureates” and “LATiNAS,” each garnering three nods. “Asian American Life” and “Let it Rip” scored two nominations each, while “Black America,” “Café Con Felo,” “Greater Good,” “Shades of U.S.” and “Urban U” all received one nomination. The two nominated films, “Solëdad” and “Anemoia,” each received one nomination and respectively were featured in CUNY TV’s coverage of the Macaulay Honors College CUNY Film Fest and the Chelsea Film Festival.  

With this year’s recognition, CUNY TV has now received a total of 215 New York Emmy Award nods throughout its 40-year history. Of those, CUNY TV has won 44 NY Emmy awards, including three last year for “Puerto Rican Voices” and “CUNY Laureates.”

The nominated programs feature captivating stories like “Pulso NY: Families Coming Together Against All Odds,” a “Nueva York” production that highlights one organization’s work in reuniting parents and children who have been separated for years. A MacArthur Fellow’s effort to preserve the culture of the people of the Amazon rainforest was explored in a nominated segment of “CUNY Laureates.” “Café Con Felo,” the longform interview program hosted by Chancellor Matos Rodríguez, received a nomination for its interview with Tania León, a prolific musician and distinguished professor emerita at CUNY. 

“It is always an honor to be nominated by our industry peers for these prestigious awards,” said CUNY TV Interim Executive Director Chiqui Cartagena. “CUNY TV remains committed to producing impactful storytelling that highlights the diverse and meaningful experiences of New Yorkers.” 

The nominations were announced on July 29. The New York Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences will present the honorees for the 68th annual New York Emmy Awards across three events in September and October. The New York Emmy Sports Award Ceremony will be on Sept 16, followed by the Creative Arts Ceremony and the New York Emmy Awards Gala, both on Oct. 11. All three events will be held at the New York Marriott Marquis.

CUNY TV is the City University of New York’s public educational television station.
