About the Panelists:

David Rabban served as General Counsel for the American Association of University Professors from 1998 to 2006. His teaching and research focus on free speech, academic freedom, higher education and the law, and U.S. legal history. He is the author of Freedom of Speech in Its Forgotten Years (1997). He has been a member of the faculty at the University of Texas School of Law since 1983. Academic Freedom was published by Harvard University Press in 2024.

Ashley Dawson is Professor of English at the College of Staten Island, and University Distinguished Professor, CUNY. He is the author of many books, most recently People’s Power: Reclaiming the Energy Commons (2020).

Michael Paris is Associate Professor of Political Science, Pre-Law Adviser and Director of the Legal Studies Institute at the College of Staten Island. He is the author of Framing Equal Opportunity: Law and the Politics of School Finance Reform (2010).
