With the successful completion of CUNY’s transition to the Brightspace Learning Management System, Blackboard will no longer be available after Thursday, Dec. 18, 2025.
CUNY is taking steps to ensure instructional records remain secure, accessible, and compliant with University policy:
- Archiving: Blackboard courses and associated data will be centrally archived in full accordance with University data and legal retention policies.
- Long-term access: A permanent LMS archiving solution is being developed to provide stable, long-term access to archived instructional records.
Faculty/staff action: We encourage you to export any remaining Blackboard content created before Sept. 2021 by Dec. 18, 2025, if you wish to retain it for future use. (Note: Blackboard courses from the past four years have already been migrated to Brightspace.)
Guides and tutorials for exporting Blackboard content: (Special thanks to John Jay College for sharing):
Urgent Note: BlackboardCollaborate recordings are not included in course archives and should be saved to CUNY-approved storage (e.g., CUNY Dropbox or OneDrive) in compliance with data and privacy requirements. Please download any that you may need in the future.
Thank you.
