College of Staten Island doctoral student and genealogist Debbie-Ann Paige was featured in a recent PIX11 News report examining the historic African American burial ground beneath a Staten Island shopping plaza. Paige, who has contributed genealogical research to the effort, highlighted the importance of locating and identifying graves at the former Cherry Lane Cemetery, which served as the final resting place for formerly enslaved and free Black Staten Islanders in the 19th century.
