Summer Hours
The summer schedule will be in effect from Monday, June 8 through Friday, Aug. 14, 2026. During this period, eligible full-time clerical, administrative, and non-teaching instructional staff will observe a four-day workweek, with Fridays off, except during certain holiday weeks. As in previous years, a summer workday will be 8¾ hours per day, plus a 45-minute unpaid lunch, Monday through Thursday. A typical schedule would be 8:00am to 5:30pm, with lunch from noon to 12:45pm. Fridays will be non-workdays.
Please note that the four-day schedule will not apply during the weeks that include Juneteenth (observed Friday, June 19) and Independence Day (observed Friday, July 3). During those two weeks, employees will work four regular, non-extended workdays.
For employees who are eligible and approved to work on a hybrid schedule, a minimum of two days onsite per week is required throughout the summer program, with no more than two days worked remotely. The use of annual leave does not reduce this onsite requirement. For example, if an employee takes two days of annual leave in a given week, they are still expected to fulfill the minimum two-day onsite requirement and will be required to work onsite on days that would otherwise be designated as remote. Of course, this does not prevent supervisors from approving annual leave as they deem appropriate (i.e., 3 days; 1 week, etc.).
Offices are expected to remain open and staffed to the greatest extent possible during the summer months. In instances where a small office must close due to vacation or leave, clear signage should be posted indicating whom visitors may contact and how that individual can be reached during regular business hours.
Finally, supervisors and division administrators may require additional onsite days or establish blackout dates for the use of annual leave when necessary to ensure adequate staffing during peak periods or scheduled events.
Employees who do not wish to–or are unable to–work the extended hours during the aforementioned weeks as described above shall be given the option of working four regular workdays (i.e., 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Thursday) and charge the fifth day (Friday) to annual leave. All such requests shall be submitted to HRTimekeeping@csi.cuny.edu using the online form, with supervisor’s approval, by Friday, June 5. Employees must have an annual leave balance of eight days in order to be eligible to waive the summer hour work schedule.
As a reminder, all Public Safety, Buildings and Grounds, and 220 Titles are exempt from participating in the summer hours program and will remain in person/on-site for their regularly scheduled Monday through Sunday shifts.
Annual Leave
Please note that the 2023-2027 PSC-CUNY Agreement permanently extends the deadline to Dec. 31 for instructional staff employees to use any accrued leave days in excess of the 45-day maximum carryover. The University will also be extending the deadline to Dec. 31, 2026, for all other full-time employees to use any accrued leave days in excess of their maximum carryover. Unscheduled Holidays from the time and leave year ending Aug. 31, 2026, will not be carried over and must be used by Aug. 31, 2026, or they will be forfeited.
Flexible Work Arrangements
The University’s current remote work guidelines remain in place. Please see CUNY Flexible Work Arrangements – The City University of New York for more information. Of course, not every position lends itself to a remote component. This determination will be made by supervisors in consultation with their managers/directors and should be based on the essential functions of the position and the needs of the department. Currently, the maximum number of days full-time staff can be approved by their supervisor to work remotely during the academic year is one day per week.
Remote work arrangements for July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027, must be documented using the Remote Work Agreement form, which has been extended for use through June 30, 2027, pursuant to agreements with the PSC and DC 37 (including Teamsters Local 237, SEIU Local 300, IATSE Local 306, and New York State Nurses Association).
Public Safety staff and other essential employees will continue to work fully in-person, and we express our gratitude for their ongoing presence across our campuses and offices. Employees with medical concerns regarding in-person work may apply for a reasonable accommodation. For more information, please go online.
Any questions/concerns can be sent to HRTimekeeping@csi.cuny.edu.
Have a great summer.
By the Office of Human Resources.
