Following his selection to the prestigious 2026 Center for Architecture Lab Residency late last year, College of Staten Island professor Ashley Dawson will now bring that work to the public with the opening of a new exhibition, Energies of Repair, debuting May 7 at the Center for Architecture in New York City.
Co-curated by Dawson as part of the Lab’s 2026 cohort, Energies of Repair explores the timely and complex theme of “Repair – Democracy and Urban Spaces.” The exhibition brings together a diverse group of architects, urban planners, designers, artists, cultural conservationists, and community activists, all responding to a central question: how can the concept of repair help reimagine more democratic and equitable urban environments?
The project examines repair on multiple levels, addressing not only the physical infrastructure of cities, but also the deeper political and social inequities embedded within them. Through innovative perspectives, the exhibition highlights the urgent need to rethink how our shared spaces are designed, maintained, and experienced.
The exhibit, held at the Center for Architecture at 536 LaGuardia Place in Manhattan will feature an opening reception on May 7 from 6-8pm. The public is invited to engage directly with the work and its creators. Registration for the event can be found here.
