Former College of Staten Island student Josh Martinez is receiving well-deserved recognition following a recent feature in the Staten Island Advance highlighting his inspiring journey to becoming one of New York radio’s most recognizable voices.

Now heard nightly on Z100, Martinez’s path to success was built on determination, sacrifice, and an unwavering passion for broadcasting. The Staten Island native attended the College of Staten Island before pursuing a career in radio full-time, eventually working his way through small-market stations and grueling commutes on public transportation to chase his dream.

“Staten Island builds character. Mostly because half the time you have to explain that SI is actually part of NYC. You have to tell people that the stereotypes you hear about Staten Island, while sometimes accurate, don’t define all Staten Islanders,” said Martinez. “Growing up in West Brighton gave me a sense of humor, thick skin, and the ability to connect with all kinds of people from all walks of life. Luckily for me, all those traits played a key role in me becoming a number one night host on the most popular station on earth.”

CSI has continued to celebrate Martinez’s connection to the College in recent years, including appearances on CSI-TV and mentorship opportunities for current students interested in media and broadcasting careers.
