The College of Staten Island has earned several notable national recognitions in the latest U.S. News & World Report “Best Colleges” rankings, including a Top 25 ranking among public Regional Universities in the North and a Top 20 ranking for social mobility.
In the 2027 rankings, CSI is tied for No. 24 among Top Public Schools – Regional Universities in the North, placing the College among the leading public institutions in the region.
CSI was also ranked No. 17 among Top Performers on Social Mobility – Regional Universities in the North, recognizing the College’s success in supporting students and creating pathways to degree completion and opportunity.
In addition, CSI’s undergraduate nursing program earned national recognition, ranking among the Top 300 Best Undergraduate Nursing Programs nationwide.

The latest U.S. News rankings provide recognition across several areas central to CSI’s mission, from the quality and value of public higher education to social mobility and academic programs. The College’s social mobility recognition is particularly reflective of CSI’s commitment to providing students with access to a high-quality education and the opportunity to achieve their academic and professional goals.
The 2027 U.S. News rankings also feature changes to the methodology used to evaluate colleges and universities. Among the changes is the introduction of an earnings-by-major measure, which uses federal College Scorecard data to examine graduate earnings within academic disciplines. The new measure replaces graduate indebtedness in the methodology. U.S. News also implemented changes associated with the updated Carnegie Classification framework, resulting in some institutions being evaluated in different categories and against different peer groups than in previous editions.
The new rankings add to CSI’s growing record of recognition for academic quality, student success, affordability, and opportunity. The College was recently named a Top 25 school nationally in Return on Investment by Forbes, was named a Top College for Women by Newsweek, and has been a mainstay as a Top Military Friendly® and Top Military Friendly Spouse School® by Viqtory.
