What happens when financial literacy meets gaming, hip-hop, and live competition? Find out at the HipHopGamer Financial Gaming Summit: Learn, Play, Build Credit, coming to the College of Staten Island on Thursday, September 24, from 2:30pm-4:30pm in the Williamson Theatre located at CSI’s Center for the Arts (1P).
Hosted by gaming personality Gerard Williams, better known as “HipHopGamer,” and powered by Chase, the summit will give CSI students an engaging and interactive way to explore real-world financial skills, including credit, saving, budgeting, and goal setting. Rather than a traditional financial seminar, the event uses the culture of gaming and hip-hop to make conversations about money more accessible, relevant, and fun.
The program will open with welcome remarks from College leadership and Wendy Velazquez, followed by a 30-minute credit workshop. A fireside chat featuring HipHopGamer, moderator Barnie Keller, recording artist Cheyenne Shy Smith (CHEY), and CSI leadership will explore financial topics and give students an opportunity to participate in a question-and-answer session.
The fun then moves to the gaming stage, where HipHopGamer will face off against CSI students in live gaming battles. The afternoon will conclude with a special performance by CHEY.
The summit builds on HipHopGamer’s work connecting gaming and popular culture with financial education. Previous financial summits feature HipHopGamer demonstrating how gaming and hip-hop can help engage students in conversations about saving, budgeting, investing, student loans, and building financial health.
The event is open to CSI students. Registration is available through CSI CONNECT and Chase.
The event will also be livestreamed by CSI-TV, giving the campus community an opportunity to experience the summit online.
