The College of Staten Island commemorated the 27 alumni who perished in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, with a ceremony held yesterday at the College’s 9/11 Memorial site.
The program was introduced by Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Thomas D. Tressler-Gelok and featured remarks from President Dr. Timothy G. Lynch, who reflected on the significance of the 25th anniversary and the profound loss experienced by the CSI community and the borough of Staten Island.
The ceremony continued with a guitar solo by Music major Michael Pollice and a reading of original poetry by Adjunct Associate Professor of English Thomas Fucaloro. Debra Denmark ’92 then read the names of the 27 CSI alumni who lost their lives in the attacks.
The ceremony concluded with remarks from Laura Scazzafavo, a former Navy veteran and Director of Veteran Support Services, who reflected on the enduring importance of remembrance and honoring those whose lives were lost.
