Please join us in honoring our student, faculty, staff, and community veterans who have served or are serving in the Armed Forces. The following events are scheduled for Veterans Appreciation Month in November:
-Holiday Donation Drive 2011
If you would like to help our service personnel celebrate the holidays, Staten Island Project Home Front has requested gifts of sporting equipment (soccer balls, basketballs, footballs etc.) or small hand-held games. Groups can chip in together to purchase these items. All donations are welcome, so whatever you would like to donate will also be accepted. If you can, please wrap these presents so they are ready to be distributed. Otherwise, we will take care of packaging the gifts. Please bring your donations to the Bursar’s Office in Building 2A, Room 105 or the Student Veteran Center in the Campus Center (Building 1C), Room 219 by Tuesday,Nov. 8. Staten Island Project Home Front will pack the gifts, to be shipped overseas in mid-November.
-Women in Uniform (Tuesday, Nov. 1 to Thursday, Dec. 15, 9:00am to 5:00pm in the Gallery in the Volpe Rotunda in the Library [Building 1L])
This art exhibit will feature photos and uniforms showcasing women in the military from the American Revolution to today, and will also feature a documentary spotlighting the College’s women veterans. On Thursday, Nov. 10 from 2:00 to 3:00pm, there will be a discussion with Ann Little, the designer of the exhibit and a faculty member, in the Library conference room.
-The American Soldier (Monday, Nov. 7 to Friday, Nov. 11 from 9:00am to 5:00pm in the Student Art Gallery in the Center for the Arts [Building 1P] Room 118)
This art exhibit will feature photos and paintings from the American Revolution through the current Iraq/Afghanistan conflicts. Most of the photographs will be from our student veterans. This exhibit will include a brand new documentary that will feature CSI veterans from all military campaigns.
-CORE 100 Student Veteran Panels (Thursday, Nov. 10 from 9:00am to 9:50am, 12:20pm to 1:10pm, 5:40pm to 6:40pm, in the Center for the Arts [Building 1P] Williamson Theatre)
The CORE 100 lecture series will be hosting three Q&A discussion panels with several student veterans. Students, staff, and faculty are welcome.
-VETS for V.E.T.S (Tuesday, Nov. 1 to Wednesday, Nov. 30, posters in Buildings 1A, 2A, 1C, and 1P)
Watch for a poster ad campaign that will spotlight CSI’s veterans who support the campus and local veteran communities. The campaign will include students/staff and faculty.
-NYC Veterans Day Parade (Friday, Nov. 11 at 11:00am at 5th Avenue and 29th Street in Manhattan)
The United War Veterans Council is the organization commissioned by NYC to organize the NYC Veterans Day Parade. Once again they been incredibly gracious to our military families and have some special opportunities planned for all who participate. It’s a great day to honor our vets, service members, and families in Manhattan. CSI veterans and staff will be marching in the parade along with other CUNY schools. We will be meeting at the CUNY float at 5th Avenue and 29th Street.
