The CSI Archives & Special Collections is hosting Archives History Day on Thursday, Oct. 8 in the Library (Building 1L), Room 216 from 1:30pm to 3:00pm.
Archives History Day is an open house to learn about our collections, as well as a chance to find out about how researchers use primary sources to write history. During the event, two Staten Island authors will talk about their books.
Tottenville: The Town the Oyster Built by Barnett Shepherd.
Shepherd, an executive director of Historic Richmond Town for 20 years, founded the Staten Island Preservation League and is the author of two other local histories, Sandy Ground Memories (with Lois A. H. Mosley) and Sailor’s Snug Harbor.
Caddell Dry Dock: 100 Years Harborside by Erin Urban with photographs by Michael Falco.
Founding executive director of the Noble Maritime Collection, Urban has written three other books and seven museum publications. In addition to her duties as executive director and member of the Board of Trustees of the Noble Maritime Collection, Urban serves as curator of the museum’s exhibitions. The event is held in conjunction with American Archives Month, an opportunity to explore the importance of archival and historical records to our lives and to foster an increased public awareness of the relevance of archives to modern life.
