Pola Poskrobko led CSI with 10 kills in 35 attempts
The College of Staten Island women’s volleyball squad gave visiting William Paterson University a strong run, but ultimately fell in four games to the Pioneers, 3-1, as part of non-conference play at the Sports & Recreation Center this evening. Scores of the game were 25-10, 18-25, 25-10, 25-17. CSI fell to 4-8 overall, while WPU improved to 11-5.
WPU struck first and emphatically, winning a lop-sided, 25-10, first game, spreading out 14 kills next to no errors, good for a .667 average. The Dolphins, however, responded with a very strong second game, starting it with a 7-1 run that forced WPU to ask for time. The set stayed even from there, but CSI had a match-high 13 kills in the second frame and it was enough to power ahead, 25-18.
The Pioneers made things look easy again in the third frame, taking another 25-10 win, again spreading out 14 kills in the set. The visitors then broke a 7-7 tie in the fourth set, to score a 25-18 win in the match-clinching set. The Pioneers also used the power of service in the match, posting 20 service aces next to CSI’s six.
Leading the way for the Pioneers was Taylor Woegens, who posted 14 kills next to just four errors while also dishing out six aces. Shauna VanDeRee posted 13 kills, while Liz Dykhouse led the pack with 18 assists. Alyssa Koukos led the way defensively with 15 digs. CSI was paced by Pola Poskrobko’s 10 kills, while the sophomore also added 13 digs. Jennifer Samuel had 18 assists, while Jean Marie Lewandowki had 16 digs.
CSI will next be in action on Monday, October 8. They will travel to Baruch College to play a pair of games against Brooklyn College and Hunter College.
