Dr. Mayra Humphreys holds an MSW degree from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College (2001) and earned her Ph.D. from The Graduate Center, City University of New York (2011). Previously, in her role as the Director of the MSW program at Nyack College she led the overall development and leadership of program infrastructure, including heading its accreditation process with the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). In her 14 years teaching in the academe, Dr. Humphreys has developed course content and taught MSW & BSW courses that primarily include: Foundations of Social Justice, Field Instruction, Community Practice and Social Welfare Policy. Her research agenda includes the examination of alternatives to incarceration with adjudicated youth. Additionally, her interest in critical multiculturalism has focused on the development of culturally competent practice interventions and pedagogical approaches in social work education. Dr. Humphreys has 17+ years of non-profit leadership experience in positive youth development, program evaluation and organizational development. Currently, she lives in East Harlem, New York with her partner Jose and their 9-year-old son Javier.
