The College of Staten Island swimming & diving team returns to action after a long layoff, making their final push towards the championship season as they host Sarah Lawrence College at the Sports & Recreation Center at 11am.

Players to Watch (CSI): On the men’s side the pace is still being kept by juniors Jonathan Gorinshteyn and Nicholas Defonte who are one-two in overall scoring and in individual Top Three finishes this season. The diving tandem of Adil and Ayman El Haddad is also potent and a cause for a lot of points being generated by the Dolphins this season. Pete Carle has also been a major asset, especially in Freestyle events where he has garnered 143 total points good for third on the team. He is also the team leader with 11 Top Three finishes in relay events. On the women’s side Ewa Wojciechowska is carrying the torch and is easily the team leader with 223.5 total points and 17 first-place finishes this season. Alicia Defonte has held her own with 153 points while freshman Cecelia Mauro has been a great fill in the pool with 120 individual points earned this season.
Players to Watch (SLC): Look no further than Anthony Lee to lead the way on the men’s side. Lee is a multiple SLC record holder and again continues to set the pace for the Gryphons this season. Jacob Ringo is also a bright spot for the unit and can expect to compete when placed in his signature Freestyle events. On the women’s end, the very successful unit is led by Devon Peal, a multiple record holder in Freestyle and Individual Medley events. Hannah Lawson and Naima Mackrel also add continuity and tremendous depth for the powerful Gryphons unit.
News & Notes: For the men, CSI has never lost to Sarah Lawrence and the women have never won, so both teams will be looking to take a victory for the first time today on both sides. When the two teams met last year, the CSI men and SLC women won rather convincingly. CSI has been idle for some time, having not entered the pool since December 11. Today begins a run of four matches in the next 12 days to conclude their regular season. For SLC, They participated in the Winter Relay Meet at the PBG Aquatic Complex in Palm Beach Gardens Florida this past week, looking to shake off the winter rust that comes with having last participated head-to-head against USMMA on December 9.
