Alex Tsui is at a 2-0 mark in Singles taking wins in the Nos. 5-6 sports this year to start things off. He also represents CSI’s lone win against Baruch in last year’s regular season meeting. Freshman David Luo has had a very good start as well, going 1-0 this season at both the No. 4 and the No. 5 spot in the order. Andrew Adia and Raymond Hwang will be looking to score some wins near the upper-middle part of the order today and at No. 1 Matthew Vesci will be eyeing his first victory of the season.
Players to Watch (BC): Baruch has played seven matches already and 14 different Bearcats have landed playing time this season. Leonard Margolis leads the pack with a 5-2 record playing in the Nos. 2-3 positions this season. Lewis Pena is a perfect 4-0 so far to start off the year, going an equal 2-0 at the Nos. 3-4 Singles flights so far this season. Michael Dozortsev also has identical 2-0 marks in the Nos. 4-5 spots and is 4-1 overall. Dozortsev and Pena have combined for a 4-0 Doubles mark as well, exclusively in the No. 2 position in the order.
News & Notes: Baruch has been dominating the series in recent years, having won the last 11 meetings dating back to 2011. That run includes a total of four playoff matches in that time so these two teams have plenty of history. CSI is 7-12 all-time in games not played aon their home Staten Island courts so they will be looking to upset the balance today. CSI’s last win over Baruch came in 2010 as part of CUNYAC Tournament play, 5-1. That year was also the last year CSI won a regular season meeting, which was played on this very day exactly eight years ago. CSI and Baruch share two common opponents already this season. Both teams defeated Rutgers-Newark, with BC winning, 9-0, and CSI winning 6-3, and both teams fell to Yeshiva, with Baruch losing 8-1, and CSI losing, 7-2. This is the first time ever CSI is playing at the Alley Pond Tennis Center. The match will be played indoors.
