Allentown, PA | The College of Staten Island women’s volleyball could not bounce back in the win column, as they fell for the second time in a row, this time to Cedar Crest College on the road, 3-0. Individual scores were 25-20, 25-20, 25-22. The Dolphins dipped to 2-2 on the early season, while the Falcons lifted to 2-1.
A Lindsay Davis kill started Cedar Crest on a crisp, 5-1, start, but the Dolphins responded by taking back the lead, 7-6, using kills by Francesca Castellano and Cassidy Iannariello. The home team would respond and cut off a 13-9 lead, ended by an Elyse Podgurski kill.
Twice CSI would tie the set late, the final time at 16-16, but CCC would end on a 9-4 run to end the frame. Tiffany Hoppes scored two aces in the run to help guide the Falcons.
In the second set, The Falcons led almost wire-to-wire, at one point breaking a 6-6 tie with a 4-1 run helped by another Podgurski kill. Another kill by Nicole Hill forced a CSI timeout down 15-10. The Dolphins had a hard time generating offense from there. They were helped by 10 CCC errors but it wasn’t enough as the Falcons took another 25-20 win.
CSI’s finest set came in the third. An Arianna Spears ace helped stake CSI to a 3-0 lead, but the set would stay close, as there were eight ties that occurred. Another Davis kill tied the score at 14-14, but the Dolphins responded nicely, and took a 20-17 lead via a CCC attack error. That prompted a timeout by the Falcons, and they came out firing from there, finishing on an 8-2 run to seal the match, guided by three more Podgurski kills.
David led all for CCC with 13 kills, followed by Elrod’s eight. Madison Flatt led with 21 assists, while David poured in 12 digs. CSi was led by Castellano’s four kills while Spears added seven assists while Castellano also led the way with 12 digs.
