College of Staten Island Women’s Basketball Head Coach Nicole Sarcone has been elevated into a new role within the Athletics Department as she has been named Finance Assistant for the program, a position she will undertake immediately alongside her coaching duties. The position makes her a full-time staffer within the department and a vital part of the budget and finance operations team for CSI Athletics.
“We are very excited to bring Nicole into this new position in line with the College’s Strategic Plan focused on the alignment of resources,” said Director of Athletics Charles Gomes. “Nicole’s position on the finance side of our operation is to help drive revenue through our rental program and streamline the multi-faceted budget lines we pull from. Together with her coaching duties, we have created an opportunity to integrate different funding streams in support of the College mission. We’re excited to bring her on board in this capacity.”
Ready to embark on her second season with the women’s basketball team, which includes her first full off-season and recruiting cycle, Sarcone is anxious to commence in her new role, which will help streamline CSI Athletics’ finance and budget operation systems. Sarcone will be specializing in rental contract management and processing, along with payroll duties, execution of payment and invoicing, and Sports & Recreation Center membership services. Her accounting background will help CSI as it forecasts and monitors budgets, spending, and allocation of funds as CSI advances into the NCAA Division II landscape.
“I am extremely excited to be on board in this capacity of Head Coach and Finance Assistant,” said Sarcone. “The position will allow me to be more of a resource and presence for our women’s basketball student-athletes and play a greater role in the growth and success of our athletics department every day. I look forward to working with our finance and business manager, Alberto Sanchez, in strengthening our finance and business operations within athletics, streamlining department procedures and supporting all coaches and staff members in their endeavors towards success. It is truly a privilege to work full-time in an athletics department full of individuals who support one another and take pride in the culture we create here at the College of Staten Island.”
Alongside her extensive coaching and basketball background, Sarcone has an equally impressive experience portfolio on the finance side as well. For over four years she served as a bookkeeper for DeSantis, Kiefer, Shall & Sarcone, LLP, where she prepared bank reconciliations, processed payroll and taxes, produced financial statements, and completed bookkeeping and tax returns for businesses and individuals.
“As we transition into Division II, the finances of our athletics department become a major focal point as we look to continue to provide the best possible experience for our student-athletes and discovering all of the new assets that will be available to us at the Division II level that will help us achieve those goals,” said Alberto Sanchez, CSI’s Assistant Athletic Director / Finance & Business Manager. “Having Nicole come on board to provide assistance with our financial matters is the right addition at the right time. Her years of accounting experience will help our athletic department tremendously and I expect Nicole to come in right away and hit the ground running as we have already begun to focus on planning for the future in Division II.”
Sarcone will start her appointment immediately, integrated alongside her duties with women’s basketball. Last year, Sarcone’s first as a collegiate head coach, the Dolphins amassed a 19-8 record, advancing to the CUNYAC Postseason Semifinals. This year the Dolphins will advance their schedule with four NCAA Division II and one NCAA Division I opponent in time for their first season as a provisional Division II institution.
