Recorded on September 22, 2022, the College of Staten Island presented Water Guardians and Art of Resistance in Cajamarca, Peru as part of Hispanic-Latinx Heritage Month. The event was a virtual presentation by anthropologist Dr. Christopher Santiago based on his fieldwork in Peru, presenting the struggle of local community members against the Conga Gold Mining Project, with a focus on the peasants’ art of resistance, such as singing, dream narration, and annimistic stories of the landscape.
The event was co-sponsored by the Latin American, Caribbean and Latina/o Studies program, the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, the Department of World Languages and Literatures, Office of Student Life – Pluralism & Diversity, and the Center for Global Engagement.
