I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to provide important updates regarding our 100% student-funded transportation services on campus.
As the current contract with our bus service company draws to a close, I write with news about our campus transportation services. Following the conclusion of our last classes on Wednesday, July 31, the shuttle bus service will no longer be in operation.
In our recent student election, 80% of students voting in the election voted to reallocate the Student Activity Fee earmarked for transportation to support other student-focused initiatives. As a result, the funds previously dedicated to the shuttle service will be redirected accordingly.
We understand the importance of transportation for our students, faculty, and staff. In light of this change, we will be actively exploring alternative transportation options for our community, including conversations with the MTA and local elected officials. Several groups, including the CSI Transportation Task Force, the CSI Institutional Planning Committee, and the President’s Cabinet, will brainstorm solutions catering to the diverse commuting needs of our students, faculty, and staff. Your involvement in these discussions is highly encouraged; consider joining entities like the Student Government and the Transportation Task Force to have your voice heard.
For those who rely on the Ferry Shuttle service, please be aware of the available MTA services as you plan your fall semester schedule. You can explore additional options through initiatives like the Fair Fares program, where eligible individuals may qualify for reduced-cost MetroCards. Visit NYC Fair Fares for more information.
Please note the on-campus accessibility transportation services will continue to be provided by the College through Saturday, Nov. 30, and we will search for alternate services that may be offered to those with accessibility needs once the contract for said services expires. Individuals with a registered accommodation can find information on how to request this service by following the directions on our Transportation and Parking Website under CSI Accessible Transportation Services.
We understand that these changes may impact your commuting experience, and we are committed to exploring sustainable solutions for transportation needs. Your feedback is invaluable as we navigate these changes together.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
