Join us for the Queer Lecture Series: event: Women and Alcohol on Thursday, Nov. 21 in the Center for the Arts (Building 1P) from 2:30pm to 4:00pm. This is a CC CLUE event.
The LGBTQ Resource Center invites the campus community to an exciting lecture series celebrating our LGBTQ+ faculty and staff. Refreshments will be served. Join us to celebrate Prof. Christine Flynn-Saulnier’s retirement and all of the contributions she has made to CSI.
The presentation will focus on research on women and alcohol with an emphasis on sexual minority women. We’ll review the reasons women drink, how women’s consumption varies, what’s considered a reasonable amount of alcohol to consume, what factors can lead to problem drinking, how excessive drinking can create problems, protective factors, treatment access and outcomes for those who need it, how drinking women are sometimes harshly judged, and how to have successful drinking experiences.
This event will be presented by Christine Flynn Saulnier, Department of Social Work.
Bio: After more than three decades in the academy, half of that time at CSI, Christine Flynn Saulnier, MSW, PhD is about to retire. At CSI, she has served as Dean, Special Assistant to the Provost for Research Compliance, Faculty Athletic Representative, and Professor. For the past decade, she served as Chair of the Department of Social Work, which she was instrumental in creating. For eight years of that decade, she has been reviewing more 10,000 peer-reviewed journal articles on women and alcohol, with the assistance of many students. With a few chapters written, she hopes to complete a book on this project within the year, as her first retirement project.
