The Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program & The Bertha Harris Women’s Center Present:
“Women as Apostles, Disciples, and Prophets in the Christian Tradition: A Safe Discussion & Conversation”
Tuesday 7 October 2025, 2:30p-4p, 2N/220
CC CLUE Credit available.
People of all faiths or no faith welcome.
Join us and learn about women’s strength in the New Testament, a balm for troubled times. An engaging illustrated discussion will be followed by an open and safe conversation about women, faith, and our contemporary life, facilitated by two ordained leaders of The Episcopal Church on Staten Island.
The Rev. Kirstin Swanson is an Episcopal priest, serving as the Missioner for Staten Island, where she supports parishes as they explore challenging issues and engage in new collaborations. Ordained as a priest in 2023, Mother Kirstin is a native Staten Islander and lifelong New Yorker.
The Rev. Deacon Cindy McCloskey is a long-time Staten Islander and former Academic Advisor at CSI. Ordained in 2024, Deacon McCloskey focuses her work on pastoral care and helping all to learn to listen with the ear of the heart.
This event multifaith discussion is a collaboration among the College of Staten Island’s Program in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program, The Bertha Harris Women’s Center, and The Episcopal Church on Staten Island. The latter is an open, faith-based organization that unites the Episcopal parishes of Staten Island into a community that reflects the diversity of humanity and the human experience. The ECSI believes that human intelligence is a gift from a loving God meant to be used fully in a spirit of openness and common purpose and invites discussion across all the faith traditions of our shared humanity. All are welcome, whatever your faith, identity, or journey.
