Do you have a great idea for a new club? Starting one at the College of Staten Island is a great way to build community, develop leadership skills, and leave your mark on campus.

If you’re ready to bring your vision to life, here is a guide to starting a new club:

What You Need:

  • Membership: At least ten currently registered CSI students to sign the roster.
  • Officers: A president and secretary are required. You can also elect a treasurer (required for club budget). Other leader roles such as vice president and club council rep are optional.
  • Adviser: One faculty or full-time staff member to guide your group.
  • Documents: A Club Constitution (use our template) and official meeting minutes that reflect your election results and the adoption of your constitution.

Steps to Chartering your Club:

  1. Review the Guidelines: Check out the official process online.
  1. Prep for your First Meeting: Draft your Club Constitution using the provided template and create an agenda for your first meeting.
  1. Schedule your Meeting: Contact Student Life to file a meeting notice and secure a building and room for your group to meet in. Email debi.kee@csi.cuny.edu the date, time, and preferred classroom building. Student Life will contact you once a space has been reserved and your meeting posted on CSI Connect.
  1. Hold the Meeting and Take Minutes: Vote your officers and approve your Constitution. Make sure your written minutes document the date, attendee names, and EMPLID. Be sure to add all motions and votes.
  1. Make it Official: Log onto CSI CONNECT to register your club. Log in, go to Organizations, click Register a Club.

Important Deadlines:

  • Club Registration (chartering) deadline: Both existing and new clubs should submit the necessary documents by Tuesday, May 5.
