Earlier this month, the College of Staten Island’s Student Government (SG) held a town hall in the Campus Center. It was open for all CSI students to find out more about their own SG. The event also had free food for students to enjoy.
SG President Gabriella Rosales, spoke more about the role SG plays on our campus, as well as explaining the different commissions that help run the campus within the organization.
If you have ever wondered where your Student Activity Fees go, SG makes sure they’re being used appropriately to help all students. For example, the game room on campus in the Campus Center is getting new renovations for students to enjoy.
SG is also hosting tabling throughout the campus for students to share any problems they want addressed and to answer any questions. You can also get engaged by attending meetings that happen every other Tuesday in 1C-205. In addition, students are able to join the monthly lunches with the SG VP to address concerns.
SG is also trying to make sure campus is accessible and inclusive to all students, ensuring that infrastructure is up to date and that students are getting the resources that they need. They also make sure that students with disabilities are being addressed.
There is a total of eight commissions in SG, and they were all able to speak at this town hall. The Club Commission spoke of their goals in helping clubs budget to get guest speakers, as well as helping these clubs to have events. They also spoke of a Halloween Club Fair that will happen soon.
The town hall also informed students of future events that are happening on campus. Right now, all students can vote in elections for SG. They are also able to vote for food preferences they have for a food truck event next semester.
There was also information about an upcoming basketball game between CSI and Wagner College on October 24. SG is arranging a tailgate and T-shirt tosses for students beforehand.
Knowing that many students may have limited knowledge of SG, they are trying to make everyone on campus aware of everything they do, as well as helping students to learn about how they can get involved here at CSI.
