CSI students, including members of the Peace Club and NYPIRG, and friends came together recently to celebrate the activism of the past, and promote future action. The event featured various speakers, including Vietnam veteran Bill Johnson, and political science professor Harry Cason.
“We’re trying to bring back an antiwar atmosphere, and trying to get people to think,” said Peace Club President Tara Jeanne, a senior at CSI who is majoring in Education.
The event also included Peace Club members such as Ilya Geller, Marcus Romano, Ben Deangelis (NYPIRG Director), and Peace Club Vice President Noor Daoud, Secretary Elizabeth Oritz, and the Treasurer Anthony Librea. In addition, Eileen Bardel from The Peace Action was there to support the students and the Staten Island community.
Music was provided by Cory Williams, Bryan Karundeng, and Linda Soria, who opened the event with Sam Cooks’s “Change Is Going to Come” and closed with John Lennon’s “Imagine.” It was a fun and exciting event, and it is hoped that it will not be the last.
