CSI Hosts First of Three Lectures on Staten Island's Response to 9/11

In conjunction with efforts to collect materials documenting Staten Island’s response to 9/11 and to memorialize the victims, the College of Staten Island (CSI) Archives & Special Collections is hosting a series of three lectures this fall. The first talk in the series, “Recovery: The World Trade Center Recovery Operation at Fresh Kills,” will take place on Thursday, Sept. 27 in the CSI Library at 1:30pm.

Mark Schaming, Director of Exhibits and Programs at the New York State Museum, will discuss the 40 days that he spent at the Fresh Kills landfill working with police officers, FBI agents, and other key recovery personnel to facilitate the collection, documentation, and preservation of World Trade Center artifacts. Mr. Schaming designed the nation’s first permanent exhibition of artifacts documenting the 9/11 attacks: the “World Trade Center: Recovery Response” exhibition at the State Museum.

The event is free and open to the public. It will be held in the Archives & Special Collections of the CSI Library, located on the CSI campus at 2800 Victory Boulevard in the Willowbrook section of Staten Island. It has been funded by the college’s Program Development Committee using Student Activity Fees. Refreshments will be served.
