The Staten Island Council of Churches honored the College of Staten Island (CSI) for significant contributions to the sociocultural and civic life of the Staten Island community at their Fall Assembly Dinner on October 1, 2009.

Community leaders from across the Island gathered at Christ Church in New Brighton to honor CSI, as well as Wagner College and St. John’s University, for “providing a moral compass for our community, an enlightened vision of what our life together can be, and the direct means for people to improve their own lives through education,” stated Reverend Will Nichols, president of the Council of Churches.

Accepting the award on behalf of the CSI were President Tomás Morales and Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs William Fritz; St. John’s was represented by Rev. John A. Kettelberger, CM, University Chaplain, and Gerry McEnerney, Assistant Vice President and Executive Director of the SI Campus; and Wagner’s award was accepted by the Rev. Richard Michael, College Chaplain, Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, and Past President of the SI Council of Churches.
