As a valued employee of the College of Staten Island, you know the quality education CSI provides as a senior college of The City University of New York.
But did you know that CSI is experiencing record enrollment this year with 13,900 students? We are serving our community as never before in the College’s history, but we need you to send an email to your State Legislator to ensure that our students continue to receive a world-class education.
The Governor’s Executive Budget was released on January 19, 2010 and recommends an $84.4 million cut to the senior colleges of CUNY. A sum of $20.8 million is related to proposed workforce action to reduce salary and fringe benefit costs. There is also a $256 million dollar reduction in CUNY capital disbursements over the next five years, limiting the University’s ability to fit new projects into its plans.
The Executive Budget also proposes a $75 reduction to Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) awards, increases academic and minimum credit requirements, and would eliminate TAP for graduate students. In many instances, these changes may prohibit students from continuing to pursue their degrees.
Please tell your State Legislator that Public Higher Education is important to New York State and its economic health.
