Following a nationwide search and extensive campus participation, Mr. Vernon Mummert has been appointed Athletic Director at the College of Staten Island (CSI), effective July 15, 2010.
Mr. Mummert brings a rich portfolio of talents to CSI. Having spent over three decades in athletic administration, he has served as an Athletic Director within the NCAA Division III, NAIA, and NJCAA. In 2008 Mummert was the recipient of the prestigious NCAA Division III Central Region Athletic Director of the Year award from the National Association of College Directors of Athletics, during his time at Wabash College.
Additionally, Mr. Mummert is an experienced fundraiser with a depth of knowledge that keenly understands the important bond between college academics, the intercollegiate athletic experience, and the importance of community. He is dedicated to instilling a sense of pride in college athletes, and encouraging their participation in community service to strengthen their ties to the community and to serve as role models.
Prior to CSI, Mr. Mummert served as the Assistant Athletic Director for Athletics Facilities and Events at North Central College-NCAA DIII in Naperville, FL; Athletic Director at University of Texas at Brownsville-NAIA I in Brownsville, TX; and Athletic Director at Wabash College, NCAA DIII in Crawfordsville, IN.
Mr. Mummert received his MEd in Administration and BS in Physical Education from McDaniel College in Maryland.
Mr. Mummert’s additional honors include being named to the Drew University Hall of Fame as a soccer and tennis coach and the McDaniel College Hall of Fame as a soccer and lacrosse player.
Dr. Jerald Jones-Woolfolk, Vice President for Student Affairs at CSI, said, “I am confident that Mr. Mummert’s vision and leadership of our athletics program will help transform the student-athlete and scholar-athlete experience at CSI, and his extensive administrative and coaching background will further the mission of the CSI Dolphins to become a nationally ranked DIII program.”
