College of Staten Island women’s basketball took their first CUNYAC win last night as they defeated Medgar Evers 68-50 at the Cougars Cove in Brooklyn, NY. The Dolphins extended their conference record to 1-1 and overall to 2-8 while the Cougars dropped to a 0-2 conference record and 3-8 overall record.
 
The Dolphins started strong leading the entire first half behind the power of Olivia Tierno’s 10 points and Allie Shanahan’s nine points. With their biggest margin of 16 points with three minutes remaining, the Dolphins closed the first half with a score of 30-25.
 
CSI kept the Cougars silent in the opening minutes of the second half, taking 21 point lead off an 8-0 run. The Dolphins held a large lead the entire stanza allowing the Cougars to come as close as 15 points at 5:30.
 
Shanahan led the team with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Kaitlyn Hepworth added 13 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals while Tierno finished with 12 points and Jaclyn Tocco added nine assists.
 
Medgar Evers was led by Chantal Biscette’s 13 points and 13 rebounds. Jaide Lewis added 13 rebounds.
 
The Dolphins are back in action on Saturday, January 8 against Brooklyn College in a 12:30 pm contest.
