After clinching the CUNY Athletic Conference Championship title this past weekend the women’s softball team earned an automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Division III Softball Championships. It has just been announced that the CSI softball team was seeded #5 and will face #2 seeded Moravian College in Cortland, NY at SUNY-Cortland on Friday, May 13 at 12 noon.

Moravian goes into the tournament with a 35-7 record. Like the Dolphins, the Greyhounds won their conference championship this past weekend defeating Catholic University 14-1 in 5 innings of play. Moravian has made 13 appearances in the NCAA Division III Championships.

The Dolphins go into the tournament with a 26-11 record. CSI has appeared in the NCAA Tournament four times with their last time being in the 2009 season. There they were defeated by Messiah and Eastern Connecticut.

The double elimination regional bracket will get underway this Friday, May 13. No. 1 seeded SUNY-Cortland (26-3-1) will kick off the day at 10:00 am against #6 King’s College (18-11). CSI and Moravian will have the second game at 12 noon and #3 Montclair State (27-10) will take on #4 Piedmont (27-13) at 2:00 pm. The tournament will continue on to Saturday, May 14.

If the Dolphins win they will take on the winner of the Moravian vs. Piedmont game at 12 noon on Saturday. If CSI should loss, they will take on the loser of the game between of Cortland and King’s at 10:00 am on Saturday.
