The College of Staten Island women’s tennis fell for the second straight outing, as William Paterson University extended to an 8-1 win in Wayne, New Jersey, on Sunday as part of non-conference play. CSI fell to 6-8 overall while the Pioneers lifted their mark to 6-3.
Paterson did enough damage in doubles to help the final score hold up. The Pioneers’ Christina Puleo and Samantha Miller powered in No. 1 Doubles over Alena Vedeneeva and Ilona Stoyko, 8-1, while the team of Jessica Daniels and Mary Skretkowicz scored an 8-2 winner over CSI’s Sophia Varriano and Demi-Jean Martorano.
Puleo, Miller, Daniels, Skretkowicz and Karissa Barongan all scored wins in singles as well. CSI’s only positive marker came at No. 5 Singles, where freshman Jean Baak scored a well-earned 6-1, 6-4, winner over Sonja Pedersen.
The Dolphins will have one more regular season test against Mt. St. Mary College tomorrow evening at 6pm on the road. The Dolphins finished 5-3 in the CUNYAC, in a three-way tie for third place in the CUNYAC’s final standings. The CUNYAC will announce its seedings later today.
