The College of Staten Island women’s volleyball squad finalized the regular season portion of their schedule last night, falling in straight games to St. Joseph’s College of Brooklyn, in non-conference play at Brooklyn Technical High School. Individual scores of the games were 25-18, 25-12, and 25-15. The loss breaks up the Dolphins two-game win streak and situates the team at 4-17 overall (3-5 CUNY) as they prepare for the postseason. SJC improved to 13-10 overall.
SJC led from start to finish in every game, never allowing the Dolphins into a comfort zone. CSI started solid in the first game, spreading out nine kills next to just three attack errors, but in games two and three CSI mustered up just nine kills total next to 15 errors.
Kim Matthews led the way for the Bears, spreading out 13 kills, three serve aces and 11 digs. For CSI, both Brittany Olenick and Pola Poskrobko netted five kills each, while defensively, Lewandowski tallied 20 digs.
With the regular season over, CSI will now turn its attention to the CUNYAC Championship tournament. The No. 6 Dolphins will travel to the Bronx, New York, to take on No. 3 Lehman College on Tuesday, November 1, at 7pm.
