The College of Staten Island men’s basketball squad made it a perfect 12-for-12 in 2012, improving to 19-4 overall with a 93-81 win over Medgar Evers College on the road tonight in Brooklyn, New York. CSi also improved to their finest start everin CUNY play with a 10-0 record, dipping the Cougars to 15-10 overall and 5-6 in conference play.
Both teams battled in a see-saw first half, until two of three-straight Bloochy Magloire three-point baskets gave CSI a 19-13 edge with 12:28 remaining in the first half. CSI never trailed after that, as Medgar did get the lead down to three after an emphatic dunk and three-pointer by Winston Douglas. The Dolphins, however, responded with a 17-3 run, aided by another three three-pointers to give CSI its biggest lead, 40-23, with 4:13 to go.
MEC had time for a short rally of their own and chipped the CSI lead to 10, 43-33, at the half. From there, the second half held a series of would-be comebacks by the Cougars, as the home team cut CSI’s lead to as few as eight points on five occassions, but each time CSI had a response. The final one came at 6:44, when CSI used a 15-7 run over the next three and half minutes to take a commanding 88-71 lead. From there, CSI was able to ward off the Cougars for the 93-81 final.
CSI shot a blistering 58.3% for the game (35-60), adding a 56% clip from downtown (9-16). The Dolphins were led by Magloire’s 34 points, while Lameik Black came off of the bench to add 18 and T.J. Tibbs 15. Jovan Deare led all MEC scorers with 27 points.
CSI will next take to the road to face Brooklyn College on Friday evening at 7pm.
