The College of Staten Island’s Pluralism and Diversity Committee invites the CSI campus community to experience the “Tunnel of Oppression” on Thursday, Feb. 23 in the Campus Center Green Dolphin Lounge from noon until 3:30pm.

The “Tunnel of Oppression” is a multisensory experience designed to increase awareness and sensitivity to various types of oppression. Participants will experience the power of oppression through a series of videos, sounds, images, and role playing that aim to raise awareness, educate, and challenge thinking.

Facilitators will help participants reflect on, and process their experience of this exercise. The “Tunnel” originated in 1993 at Western Illinois University, based on the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles.

The first 100 participants will receive free t-shirts. Students earn both a PG CLUE and a CC CLUE credit.

The event is sponsored by the Pluralism and Diversity Committee.

Class participation is welcome. Contact Elaine D. Flynn, Interim Director, New Student Orientation/CLUE at 718.982.2593, or elaine.flynn@csi.cuny.edu.
