The Dolphins captured a 9-3 victory over the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Wednesday afternoon. CSI extends their record to 17-14 while USMMA falls to 16-12.
Andrew Martin started it off for USMMA in the top of the first with his RBI single that scored John Hubach, who reached on a walk. CSI wouldn’t follow up until the third inning where they scored three runs. Luis Ortiz kicked off the inning by reaching on a USMMA error; he would later score on another error. Frank Smith was up next and his two run double to put the score at 3-1.
The Dolphins added another three in the bottom of the fourth inning behind five hits and RBI’s by Dan Lynch’s single, a Will Difede sac-fly and a Smith single.
Merchant Marine knocked in one run at the top of the sixth inning with Martin’s double down the let field line to put the score at 6-2.
CSI added their final three runs in the bottom of the 6th inning as Henry Roman’s single scored Ortiz who reached on a walk. Bryan Moreno then closed out the inning with a two run single up the middle.
USMMA was only able to score one run in the remaining innings adding their lone run in the top of the 7th off of another Martine RBI single through the left side.
The Dolphins had 13 hits to USMMA’s seven. The Merchant Marine’s had five errors.
Smith led with two hits and three RBI while Sal Todaro and Roman totaled three hits apiece and Moreno hit two with two RBI.
Casey Mulligan garnered the win from the mound in six innings with two strikeouts allowing just four hits. Daniel Collins suffered the loss for USMMA.
CSI will host Baruch College on Saturday, April 21, in a 12 noon doubleheader. The day will also serve as the team’s Senior Day.
