CSI's Alfonso Castaneda scored a goal and an assist in the win

Looking to rebound from their disappointing, 4-1, loss on Monday to FDU-Florham; The Dolphins turned to their top two scorers to get them back on track Wednesday.

The Dolphins opened up the CUNYAC schedule with a decisive, 5-0, win over the Cardinals of York College this afternoon at the CSI Soccer Complex.  The win lifted the Dolphins to 5-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while York dipped to 0-6-1, 0-1-1, respectively.

Junior Nedgy Nazon paced the scoring attack with two goals, his 5th and 6th tallies of the season. While sophomore Alfonso Castaneda added a goal and assist of his own. The pair has been responsible for 17 of the teams 38 points so far this season.

Nazon and Castaneda got the scoring going in the 21st minute when Castaneda hit Nazon with a chip pass that was quickly deposited into the back of the net.

Seven minutes later in the 28th minute, Freshman Daniel Tsygankov added the second tally of the day on a brilliant individual effort from the right side. After shaking his defender, the frosh’s shot on net clipped the left post and went in for his second goal of the season.

York looked to have answered in a big way during the 67th minute, but an apparent goal off of a free kick was whistled for an offside call.

All momentum would shift back to CSI when just a minute later in the 68th minute. Junior Horatio Reid took a pass from freshman Betsam Sosa and put home a chip shot over the oncoming York keeper.

Nazon would net his second of the day in the 74th minute from senior Orsi Bermudez-Reyes, while Castaneda joined in on the fun during the 83rd minute when he would score unassisted to cap the Dolphins offensive day.

Keeper, Ahmed El-Gahreib was rock solid in net posting his third shutout of the year with a season high 10 saves.

The Dolphins will be back in action on Saturday, September 22nd when they travel to Hyde Park, NY to take on the Culinary Institute of America at 1pm.
