The College of Staten Island recently honored its highest-achieving students at this year’s Dean’s List Recognition Ceremony, held in the Center for the Arts (CFA) Concert Hall.

After welcoming remarks from CSI Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. A. Ramona Brown, CSI Interim President Dr. William J. Fritz brought greetings. Dr. Fritz told the honorees that “Advancing student achievement is at the heart of the College’s new Strategic Plan, entitled Many Voices, One Vision, and your accomplishments reflect the continuing evolution of academic excellence here at CSI.” He then underscored the College’s excellence by mentioning some of the College’s recent achievements, including the acceptance of the first CSI graduate into Harvard University, five more valedictorians/salutatorians who chose to enroll at CSI, more students coming to the College from some of the Borough’s more prestigious high schools, and Washington Monthly’s selection of CSI as one of its “Best-Bang-for-the-Buck Colleges.” He concluded this list by stating that “The best and brightest students are making the choice to come to the College of Staten Island, and you – our highest achieving students – are leading the way.”
Following Dr. Fritz, Interim Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Fred Naider outlined the criteria for Dean’s List inclusion.
The Platform Guests were introduced by Interim Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences Dr. Nan Sussman and Dean of Science and Technology Dr. Alex Chigogidze, followed by Student Speakers Kirill Zaitsev, representing the Division of Science and Technology, and Nicole Wallace, on behalf of Humanities and Social Sciences.
After comments from this year’s Faculty Speaker, Dr. Dan McCloskey from the Psychology Department, who was introduced by Associate Provost for Institutional Effectiveness Dr. Susan Holak, Professor George Sanchez, Chair of the Performing and Creative Arts Department, and Dr. Louis Petingi, Chair of the Department of Computer Science, recognized the Dean’s List students.
The ceremony concluded with remarks from Dr. Brown and a reception in the CFA Atrium.
