In an effort to reduce the number of thefts of unsecured property from offices, classrooms, and common areas, the CSI Office of Public Safety is asking for your assistance by being diligent about your personal belongings and by adhering to the following recommendations.

-Do not leave anything of value unattended in the Library, cafeteria, or anywhere else, even for “one minute.” Never leave personal property (cell phones, laptops, backpacks, purses, calculators) unattended. Take these items with you when you move about the Library and cafeteria or when leaving a classroom. Ask a friend to watch your belongings if you need to leave your work or study area briefly. It takes seconds for a thief to walk away with your property.

-Do not leave anything of value unsecured in your office. Take your valuables with you or lock them inside your desk. Lock the office doors before you leave for the evening.

-Close and lock your windows. Weather damage and thefts of opportunity occur when windows are left open.

The College of Staten Island Office of Public Safety has increased patrol inspections on the campus. The officers have been alerted to be extra vigilant and observant.

If you have any questions regarding the above subject matter please contact the Public Safety Office, (Building 2A, Room 108) at 718.982.2111 or 2116.
