The College of Staten Island men’s basketball team stayed red-hot this evening, blasting Baruch College for their 16th-straigh win by a 92-67 count at the Sports & Recreation Center as part of CUNYAC play. The Dolphins improved to 17-2 overall and 11-0 in conference, while the visiting Bearcats fell to 11-10, 7-5, respectively.
The game opened up with two free throws for CSI because of a technical foul before the game began. Bloochy Magloire was sent to the line and he was able to convert both free throws. This game seemed like it was going to be a close one from there until the Dolphins decided to kick it into a different gear, going on a 10-0 run putting them up 21-9 with 11:30 left in the first half. Louis Valdes was the one who ignited the run as he scored five of the 10 points on that run with a deep jumper and then a three-pointer from the corner.
The Bearcats were never able to recover from that run by the Dolphins as CSI was able to continue to pull away. Kevin King was able to put the Dolphins up by 12 with his three pointer at the 11:30 mark. Rebounding in the first half was critical to the Dolphins’ success as they were able to out rebound the Bearcats on the game 50-40 which largely can be attributed to Javon Cox’s double double he had tonight. Cox was able to score 13 points while collecting 10 rebounds despite having to contend with a 6-6 and 6-7 defenders down low.
Immediately after the 10-0 run, the Dolphins went on yet another run, this time it was a 9-0 run led by Will Fonseca who scored four of the 9 points. With just 2:41 remaining in the half CSI closed it out with yet another 10-0 run putting them up 45-25 at half time.
The dynamic duo from the Dolphins really were on top of their game tonight. Bloochy Magloire and Jonathan Chadwick-Myers combined for 41 points. Magloire shot 50% from the three point line and finished the game with 21 points while Chadwick-Myers shot 66% from long range and scored 20 points tonight.
With 11:00 minutes left in the game the Dolphins were already in the double bonus which led to CSI shooting 38 total free throws on the night and making 29 (76.3%) of them. The score differential got to as high as 30 points before the Bearcats were able to slim that down towards the end of the game. The Dolphins were able to keep this game out of reach through their solid defense and outstanding shooting (50%) in tonight’s game.
The Dolphins were able to beat the Bearcats by a final score of 92-67 which extends the Dolphins’ win streak to 16 in a row, and continue their undefeated record within the CUNYAC.
CSI will head to Lehman on Monday, February 3 at 7:30 PM in a CUNYAC game.
