The College of Staten Island outswam the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence this afternoon in a men’s swim meet. With the win the men improve to 8-3 overall and are set for the CUNYAC playoffs. With this afternoons loss the Gryphons fall to 4-3 overall on the season, however they have one meet left and will look to win that match to stay above .500 on the year.
The Dolphins got off to a great start in the 200 yard Medley Relay. They were able to beat their season’s best record by three tenths of a second coming in at a time of 1:43.66, where the previous season’s best was 1:43.96. Timothy Sweeney demolished his competition in the 1000 yard Freestyle and almost just missed his season best time by 11 seconds. The men placed first in 11 of 13 events winning by a score of 154-70.
John Pignatelli came in first place in both the 1Mtr and 3Mtr Diving events. Danila Novikov placed first in all three of his events which consisted of the 200 yard Medley Relay, 100 yard Backstroke, and the 200 yard Freestyle Relay. Yury Zimarev also placed first in all of his event two of which came from the relay teams victories. Zimarev placed first in the 100 yard Butterfly with a time of 52.72 beating his opponent by just two tenths of a second.
CSI will enter the CUNYAC Championships as the number one seed and will want to take home the title this year.
The CUNYAC Championship takes place at Lehman College on January 30 at 1:00 PM.
