CUNY has mandated that all computers running Windows XP and Office 2003 or earlier versions be upgraded to Windows 7 and Office 2010 by Tuesday, Apr. 8, 2014. Computers running these programs will not be allowed on CUNY’s network after Apr. 8. As part of Microsoft’s Support Lifecycle policy*, Microsoft will no longer provide support for Windows XP and Office 2003 as of that date.  Consequently, after Apr. 8, Microsoft will no longer issue updates to address new security vulnerabilities for any computer running Windows XP, Office 2003, or earlier versions of the software.

Over the course of the next two months, CSI will comply with CUNY’s mandate and begin a process of migrating all of the computers on CSI’s network to Windows 7 and Office 2010.

The migration will take place in several phases. Technicians from both our HelpDesk and Hardware divisions will be visiting your offices to inventory, prepare, backup, and install the new software. If a computer is upgradeable, the software migration will take place via an automated installation or by a technician in the office. If a computer does not have the necessary hardware, the computer will either be upgraded with additional memory or be replaced. In either instance, a charge back for the necessary equipment will be sent to the department.

To assist you with the migration, training for Windows 7 and the MS Office Suite has been scheduled for the months of February and March. A schedule of training dates is available online.

We ask for your cooperation as we implement this migration. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Doriann Pieve-Hyland at 718.982.2348.
