College of Staten Island freshman point guard Frankie Schettino continues to build up his collection of awards. The frosh picked up his seventh CUNYAC Rookie of the Week honor, it was announced today. Schettino enjoyed another quality week, as the Dolphins went 2-0. The award was the fourth -straight for Schettino, who would appear to be a heavy favorite for the conference’s Rookie of the Year honor as well.
Schettino and the Dolphins were a part of two wins last week, both against CUNYAC teams. On January 29, Schettino dropped in just four points, collecting four rebounds and four assists in a lop-sided win over City College of New York, 74-51. Schettino only played 22 minutes in the tilt.
Two nights later, against Baruch College, Schettino popped in 9 points against the Bearcats, spreading out five rebounds and five assists. The Dolphins used a big first half run to open up the game and take a 92-67 win.
For the season, Schettino is averaging 10.6 points to go with 4.1 rebounds per contest. The quarterback of the offense has amassed 125 assists, a clip of 6.6 per game, good enough for 7th in the NCAA Division III ranks.
CSI is back in action tonight against Lehman College at 7:30pm.
