After celebrating a pair of weekly honors for soccer yesterday, the College of Staten Island received another this afternoon, as freshman runner Liam McMunn was named the City University of New York Athletic Conference Men’s Cross-Country Rookie of the Week. The accolade is the first for McMunn and the team, following a terrific run at the Bard College Invitational.
In the 8k event at Annandale-on-Hudson, McMunn shined bright, posting a time of 27:31, the fastest time in CSI history in the 8k course. In fact, both McMunn and teammate Andrew Scharf eclipsed the old record set by Andrew Pate a year ago on the same course. McMunn’s time was good for 20th overall in the field, and was the fourth-best time among CUNYAC runners. It marked the first time McMunn came in first among his teammates.
For the season, McMunn has participated in three races, with two of his 8k times among the CSI top 10 for the 2014 season.
