On the heels of scoring her first goal of the season, CSI senior Melissa Gelardi earned CUNYAC Player of the Week honors, it was announced yesterday. CSI went 1-1 on the week, and it was Gelardi’s tally that proved to be the game-winner over The City College of New York in CSI’s lone CUNYAC test, that helped CSI register the win.
Gelardi’s trademark has been her ability to assist players on goals. The senior midfielder has tallied 13 this season, second in the NCAA Division III ranks, giving her 72 for her illustrious career, easily the most in CSI history. Last week, however, it was Gelardi’s tally with 27 minutes remaining against CCNY that made the difference. Gelardi had seven shots in the game, but her lofty strike from almost 25 yards out was muffed by CCNY keeper Emily Ramos and trickled in. Gelardi sustained the pressure, and CSI went on to win the game, 1-0.
For the Dolphins, it marked their 23rd-straight win as part of CUNYAC Regular Season play, and the team improved to 5-0 this season. The Dolphins have one conference game left this Saturday at Brooklyn College at 12 Noon.
