On Tuesday, November 18, 2014 the CSI Intramural & Recreation Program held its annual Students vs. Faculty/Staff Basketball Game at the Sports & Recreation Center. After losing a big lead in last year’s event and eventually losing the game by two points, Faculty/Staff sought out for revenge this time around as they came out firing on all cylinders from start to finish. The Students were never able to get in a grove offensively nor stop anyone on the defensive side. The final score was 74-44, in favor of Faculty/Staff.
With a good crowd on hand, both teams started slow for the first couple of minutes of play until Faculty/Staff reeled off a few buckets in a row that gave them a 10 point lead, 15-5, at the end of the first quarter. As the second quarter started, it was more of the same for Faculty/Staff as they continued to pour it on to extend their lead to 20 points, 37-17, at the half.
The Students came out of the gates on fire in third as they rallied a few buckets in a row cutting the lead down to as many as 10 points. However, Faculty/Staff responded in a timely manner and scored quickly and efficiently to up their lead passed 20 points once again. In the fourth and final quarter it was more of the same as Faculty/Staff kept pouring it down and inevitably taking the win, 74-44.
Faculty/Staff were able to hit eight three’s in the game compared to only one three for the Students. Faculty/Staff were led by Jordan Young (Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach) whom hit three three’s for a total of 22 points; Rob Logan (IT Assistant) & Rob Mesjasz (Building Supervisor) combined to score 21 points. The Students were led by Eudes Pierre’s 12 points and Edward Broomes’s 10 points.
The next slate of Students vs. Faculty/Staff Games will be a in the Spring 2015 semester; more likely than not there will be Flag Football, Indoor Soccer and the end of the year Softball Game & BBQ.
